Protectors of the Upper Chesapeake Bay
From the President

As we wind down 2011, we reflect on the happenings of the past 12 months, from the passing of good friends to the joys of newborns, the fire company family has had some changes this year. As we head into the New Year we look forward to the challenges ahead with absolute determination.

As a department we need to stand in unison, always looking forward, but never so far ahead we forget where we came from. As with every year we have some challenges ahead. We need to:

* Bring up our membership rolls

* Get our people who are not coming out, to come out and get involved.

* We need to work on fundraising, and ways of marketing our Hall.

* We need to look at how to cut recurring costs, such as lowering energy bills, and fuel bills.

* We need to get our committees actively involved in their selected missions, whether it is looking over the By-Laws or investigating new technologies the company could leverage to make our mission easier.

I hope we will all take an active role in making our station even better in the coming months.

The VP's Corner

Well, it's 2012 and Charlestown Fire Company has turned a new corner.

We have made a few changes in the operations and administration sections for the 1st time in many, many years.

The changes in the fire line officers this year starts with the retirement of Ronnie Daniels as Chief for 26 years. This is a record in Cecil County as Ronnie was the longest serving Chief with never having anyone run against him in those 26 years and we thank him for his service to the department and people of Charlestown. Ronnie will continue to serve as a Board of Director.

Gary Bott has been serving as the Assistant Chief for 26 years as well and also was never challenged for his position during those years. Well, now Gary is Chief and Tom Bicking is Assistant Chief and we look forward to the new changes and direction that they will take us in our path forward.

In the administrative side of the house, we have some changes as well. Michael Varady served us as the Vice President for many, many years as well and he too was never challenged for his position and we thank him for his unconditional service to the department and people of Charlestown as well.

Michael Doss chose to not seek re-election to his seat on the Charlestown Board of Commissioners so this has allowed him to run and has been elected to the departments board of directors again and is now the Vice President of the department and embraces the changes and challenges of the department and serving the people of Charlestown.

Please wish us luck in these upcoming and challenging times as we move the department forward serving the people of Charestown!
